Welcome
Dear Neighbors,
Thank you for visiting our new website and for your interest in the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
We are proud to be able to contribute to our State by helping provide for education and public
safety. We work hard to ensure that Alabamians maintain their quality of life.
As the gospel says, "to whom much is given, much is expected." And we are ever mindful of that
when we donate to charitable causes around our State.
And we are thankful that we are able to provide jobs to our tribal members and to our neighbors,
especially now in a troubled economy.
But we can do more, if we are given the chance.
For many years, our Tribe has offered to share a portion of our revenues with Alabama if the Governor
would agree to negotiate a "compact" or agreement with us. Most states with Indian Tribes that are recognized
by the federal government have such compacts.
We believe a compact between our Tribe and the State would accomplish many things.
- A compact would restrict the spread of unregulated, untaxed gaming in the State.
- A compact would provide the State with funds that could be used for education, health care,
or any essential services that have been hurt by budget cuts.
- A compact would limit Las Vegas style gaming to our tribal lands, where it is already regulated by
the federal government.
We hope you will support our efforts to secure a compact with our State. We take pride in our Tribe's
long history of being good neighbors and want to continue that tradition for years to come.
Faithfully yours,
Buford L. Rolin, Tribal Chairman
