Mallory & Hannah Gibson

Tribal Members

Sisters Mallory and Hannah are passionate about understanding their roots and participating in traditional crafts and ceremonies. A focal point for their inspiration is the story of Chief Calvin McGhee traveling to DC in the 1960’s to meet President John F. Kennedy to bring awareness of the Poarch Creeks on the federal level. This trip was made long before the Tribe achieved federal recognition in 1984, and it was not a trip that he pulled off alone; it took the community. Mallory and Hannah carry his story like a torch, seeing reinvigorated traditions and language as healing to the community—especially struggling kids who want to lead productive, meaningful lives.
