Alabama Shakespeare Festival

Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the State’s Theatre, is the largest professional, producing theatre in Alabama and one of the largest Shakespeare festivals in the world. Started by Martin Platt in1972, the Festival found its permanent home in Montgomery through a generous donation of Wynton Blount. Educationally, economically and culturally, ASF has tremendous impact, bringing stories to life throughout the state and region.

“It’s always essential to feed and clothe humanity. The role that arts play, however, is vital too because the arts feed the soul. Throughout history, vibrant arts require great generosity whether it’s from a patron or many patrons. The Alabama Shakespeare Festival thrives on great generosity. The Poarch Creek Indians certainly are at the forefront of that generosity.”
