Amanda’s late grandfather, a Poarch Creek Tribal Member, is perhaps her most influential role model. After retiring as a tugboat captain, he dedicated his life to his garden. Harvesting. Working. Planting— okra, corn, squash, grains, cabbage, collard greens. When people sat down to eat his food it was helping the community, drawing people together. Growing up, her family’s home was always open to friends in need, her grandfather’s spirit felt in that act. Amanda looks to the vegetable garden that united a community as the seed that shaped her personal life vision.
