Mal McGhee

Tribal Member

Mal grew up in a house adjoining a country store opened by his father who passed at an early age. With five kids and just a sixth grade education, his mother quit her job and ran the store for over 30 years. Mal’s summer was enjoyed with friends jumping into the creek in cutoff jeans and playing with homemade toys—“play pretties.” The slingshot was a favorite among the boys as they ran through the woods hunting small game, bringing Mal a sense of his Indian heritage and ancestry.
