The March of Dimes helps moms have full-term pregnancies and researches the problems that threaten the health of babies. Steve Kermish is a volunteer board member and has served for about 15 years, sharing the Citizen of the Year event honoring individuals whose distinguished leadership and devoted service contribute greatly to the quality of life for the people of Alabama.
“You hear, ‘I have to go to the hospital, and we had to take the baby here and there…’ These are parents that, eventually, are missing paychecks. The strain is enormous. What we have today is Poarch coming in and taking the place of what neighbors and family did years ago. March of Dimes hopes that, with the support of Poarch and other donors, we’re going to figure out why these kids come early.”
